OUTSIDE OF SURFING

Amy is a woman of many talents. During a lull in swells you may find her doing any one of the following: yoga, spearfishing, swimming, stand up paddle boarding, hiking, playing photographer with her GoPro or Canon Rebel, camping, galloping through the Puerto Rican jungle on horseback, digging deep in her garden, preparing healthy home cooked meals using organically grown produce from said garden, learning to speak French, playing her ukulele, painting, drawing or seated in front of her cherished sewing machine contemplating her next design.

Amy is also a new mom and devotes a portion of her days to teaching and sharing her love of life with her baby girl.

TALE OF A MERMAID

Amy was born on tiny Merritt Island on the East Coast of Florida and learned to swim at just 15 months old. Her parents owned “Wind & Surf,” a shop on the boardwalk in Indialantic, which kickstarted her surfing at the early age of six. By 16 she had a knack for nose riding and after a couple years of perfecting her crossstep, she began excelling at local contests. At 20, she ventured to California to compete in the Roxy Jam Cardiff and won. Now living in Puerto Rico full time, she is one of the island’s leading female athletes. During the winter season Amy enjoys surfing big waves such as Tres Palmas, Wilderness and other unnamed locales.. Recently she placed 3rd in the Corona Pro Surf Circuit held at Maria’s beach in giant conditions, showcasing her wave knowledge with bravery, skill, and determination. Always with a smile on her face and a positive attitude she inspires happiness and cheer if you spot her in the lineup.

CITIZEN OF THE WORLD

After being homeschooled (K12), where she acquired a variety of natural skills that shaped her life, Amy left the sunshine state at age 19, and has since lived in Puerto Rico, Southern California, North Shore Oahu and Long Beach, New York. During that time, she was able to improve her travel resume by surfing throughout England, Spain, Portugal, France, Canary Islands, Brazil, Panama, Nicaragua, Mexico and Australia. Experiencing so many different types of waves pushed her onto a shortboard and she now spends hours in the water every day on her high performance 5’4 Firewire. Exploring different cultures has given her a sense of responsibility for preserving natural species and ecosystems which are threatened by the massive impact we as the human race are inflicting in every far corner of the world. She is dedicated to keeping our beaches clean, staying involved with the local Surfrider chapter to help raise funds and awareness for future generations.
