Last week at the 2014 Vans US OpenO’Neill team rider Malia Manuel – a former two-time champion of this event – ended strong with a semifinals finish of third overall! Malia was able to breeze through the first two rounds and shocked the crowd in Round 3 with a ride that scored her a 9.63. Her score was the highest of the women’s elite competition, which helped her move onto the quarterfinals.  Despite poor conditions, Malia was able to beat out Nikki Van Dijik in heat one by 4.57.

In the first round of the semi-finals, there were more promising waves on hand and thousands of fans waiting to cheer on an intense round of competitions.

Throughout the heat, Malia performed her best due to the lack of waves and unfavorable conditions. We’re so proud of her impressive semifinals finish!! Malia is now sitting in 5th on the 2014 ASP Women’s World Championship Tourand we can’t wait to cheer her on again at the Supergirl Pro this weekend, and again at the Swatch Women’s Pro Trestles coming up in September!
