A Day in the Life of…

6:00 a.m. My alarm (not so gently ) wakes me up to start the day. Snooze…….

6:05 a.m. I usually try to only hit the snooze button once….so, I’m up and semi-sleep walk to the coffeepot to pour a cup of fresh coffee before I start to get ready.
(I have preset the timer the morning before so it’s made when I wake up…this is key to a good morning! )

6:10 – 6:30 a.m. Turn on the news (KTLA Channel 11 never fails, entertainment and news all in one) I like to listen to it in the background while I’m getting ready.
Hop in the shower and get ready, while simultaneously playing ball with my dogs before I dash out the door (2 Dauschunds named Somebody and Vivian…. and a Chihuahua named Stella) I should be on that “Animal Hoarders” show….seriously.

6:45 a.m. Get dressed. I change outfits at least twice, on a good day. Then I add on all my jewelry…..less is definitely NOT more when it comes to my jewelry collection…there is no such thing to me as over-accessorizing!!!!

7:00 a.m. Make something quick to eat…… egg whites with toast, fruit and/or oatmeal before I run out the door. Breakfast is brain food !!!

7:05 – 8:00 a.m. Hop in the car and head to Starbucks.
Yes..I go there EVERY morning! I’m addicted…… Venti, triple shot, non-fat latte, please! They know me by name…..scary.
It really helps get me thru the 45-60 minute commute that I have from San Clemente to our offices in Irvine and I usually end up carrying this around with me all morning from meeting to meeting……
Oh- and I call my mom EVERY morning on my way to work, to chat with her, because she is usually driving at the same time to her office.

8:00 a.m. Arrive at work, turn on my computer, my music (always!) and glance at my calendar for the day’s schedule.
I love getting in a little earlier than my team (they are in around 9 a.m.) in order to get some of the things done that I can’t seem to get done throughout the day when my office is a revolving door. A little quiet time to concentrate and answer emails!

8:15 – 9:00 a.m. Brainstorming…….Summer 2012 Concepts, Colors, Themes and Prints…..deadlines are looming, we just got back from our Summer Shopping Trip to NY and we have a few days to pull this together.

9:15 – 9:30 a.m. Quick “Touch Base” Meeting with our VP of Design & Marketing, Kari , to review some meeting dates, budget and travel…..we are attached at the hip and I keep her in the loop on everything I’m doing! Seriously…..my right hand!

9:30 – 10:00 a.m. Answer emails, schedule vendor meetings and meet with my Designers on Summer 2012 Prints…..we are now starting to finalize color and concept for all of the prints for Summer 2012.

10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Meeting with our Swim Designer, Anya, to review Summer 2012 Swim designs, color, concept and prints.
As I said…deadlines are looming!

11:00 – 12:00 p.m. Meet with our SMU Team and one of our Sales Managers, Lindsay…..we are reviewing specialty footwear & sportswear product for Holiday 11 for some bigger accounts, as well as buyer feedback and vendor challenges.

12:30 –1:00 p.m. Quick Lunch with Lindsay ….gotta get out of the building today, it’s gorgeous outside! Take a few deep breaths and enjoy……………

1:00 – 2:30 p.m. Keep working with the design team on Summer 2012 prints and colors (re-work, re-work, re-work!!…it takes massaging till we get it just right)…….while answering emails, fielding phone calls and constant people in my office
Also—we were celebrating a few office birthdays today, so we had cupcakes and goodies!
Happy B-day Jade, Shawn and Max!

2:30 – 6:00 p.m. First round of interviewing candidates for our O’Neill/Teen Vogue Generation Next Fashion Event this year. We met with the top 10 girls from high schools all around Southern California. Have to narrow down to 5 after today’s meeting! So hard…..they are all so talented, passionate and creative! Very inspiring!

6:00 –6:45 p.m. Back at my desk, I’m wrapping up everything before I can leave for the day….answering emails, scheduling meetings, reviewing cads, preparing for tomorrow’s meetings…the list goes on!

7:00 p.m. Shut down my computer, clean up my desk area, turn off the lights and I’m walking out the office door to my car……hop in for the 45 minute drive home. Crank up the music to zone out and de-stress. Windows down, it’s a warm beautiful evening and the sun is just going down……..

7:45 –8:00 p.m. Walking in the door at “home” (we are in a hotel for a few months while our house is getting fixed…so we call the hotel our “Beach House”…..it’s small, old and smells “beachy”, if you know what I mean…. but we have a great view right on the water so that makes up for it)…. I’m greeted by the “tribe” as we call them (all my dogs & my husband, Jon:)) ………while fixing dinner, I browse thru my stack of magazines that I always have with me. I tear out things that inspire me constantly. Jon always makes fun of me because all he hears is me ripping things up all the time……….I destroy ALL magazines

8:30- 10:00 p.m. Eat dinner, check for any urgent emails before I go to bed….make any personal calls relating to the house…..contractors, engineers, etc…….to line up the next day.
Water my orchids….I’m obsessed, I have them everywhere! Wash my face (I’m religious about this) and put all my lotions and potions on (yes, ladies…you too will be there one day….anti-aging sucks!) ……brush my teeth,…… Put my phone on the charger for the nite and go to bed….to do it all over the next day! Phew……I’m exhausted!
