John John Wins World Cup of Surfing!

jazzy

In stunning fashion, John John Florence reigned victorious at the Vans World Cup of Surfing. After catching 4 of the highest scored waves of the contest, John John caught two deep barrels to combo the rest of the field with a 9.5 and a 7.5 to take the win.

That’s not to say the heat nor the contest was a walk in the park. Florence was pitted against Tahitian Michel Bourez, Aussie Adam Melling and fellow Hawaiian Hank Gaskell. The lead traded several times with John John dropping as far as 3rd until he caught a draining barrel to score a 9.5 with 6 minutes left in the heat.

With 3 minutes left he put the nail in the competitor’s coffin with a 7.5 as he got slotted deep in an apparent closeout barrel only to sneak out the doggie door with a very modest claim.

Not one to let the dust settle, he’s already looking forward to surfing the Pipe Masters against the world’s best surfers and a legacy of champions unrivaled in the sport. I for one, can’t wait to watch him again.
