I can’t believe my trip is almost over! I took a look outside and the weather was perfect. I grabbed Meg and ran to the beach. I wanted to get a jump start on her lesson, so we got two longboards and made our way to the sand.
We threw down our boards and the lesson began. I made sure to tell her to keep her knees compressed and not to look down! The key is to look forward.
It was time to hit the warm tropical Costa Rican ocean!
I lead her out and talked her through paddling. First wave… here we go! I pushed her in and was hoping she remembered what I taught her on the beach. Go Meg!
Wipeout! But I spy a smile!
After a few waves, Meg and I came back in for a coco break! Fresh coconuts? Yes, please! I absolutely love coconut water. It’s delicious and so good for you too!
After the quick break, it was my turn to surf! Wohoo!
Now that we got some surfing time in, it was time for the sunset cruise! We drove over to the docks and low and behold… the most amazing catamaran..the Tsunami!
As we sailed into the sunset, we saw tons of dolphins (my absolute favorite) and even a humpback whale! It was so awesome and exciting.
Seeing the whales and dolphins jump to and fro made us thirsty for an adventure! So, we stopped the boat and did what I do best: Adventure!
What a great evening. We knew stepping off that boat we made lifelong friends.
That’s Heidi from Shape Magazine!
It has been such an amazing journey I couldn’t believe it was ending.
The next day we had one more day to surf! So excited!
Today, we had a few local surfers help the rest of the group. I took Meg on one last ride. Ready…set… yay! She got to her knees!
It was so exciting sharing my passion with someone. Teaching Meg and showing her why I love the ocean was priceless.
As we headed back to the hotel, it was time to say good-bye. It was such a bittersweet moment. I made such great friends and learned and experienced so much from this beautiful country. I was going to miss Costa Rica so much, but it was time to start my next adventure: college!
Until next time amigos!
Reflection of the trip:
Overall this trip was epic, amazing, thrilling and memorable. I met so many amazing people and experienced such a vibrant culture here in Costa Rica. I am absolutely in love with this country! It is so beautiful and filled with adventure. I tasted, seen, experienced and did so many new, crazy, and awesome things.
One of the many things I admired in Costa Rica was their respect and love for the land. They are so Eco friendly and strive to make this world a cleaner place. They recycle EVERYTHING. I hope America can one day learn from Costa Rica to not be as wasteful and strive to keep this earth healthy.
Another admirable Costa Rican characteristic is their “Pura Vida” lifestyle – pure life, happy life, simple and positive living.
Hope you enjoyed my blog! I’m so glad I was able to share my experience with you!
