O’Neill Girls team rider Malia Manuel battled head-to-head with some of the best female surfers at stop No. 4 of 7 on the 2012 ASP Women’s World Championship Tour, the Commonwealth Bank Beachley Classic and placed 2nd!

Round 1 : Malia came up short in her round 1 heat to Sally Fits and was forced to surf the do or die elimination round 2.

Round 2: Malia was matched up against fellow team mate Sage Erickson in a close fought heat and came out on top in the tough afternoon conditions.

Round 3: Malia was matched up against four time world champ Steph Gilmore once again in round 3 and came out guns blazing with a 15.00 point total. Malia skipped round 4 and set to surf on the final day of the event and yet another quarter final birth.

“I’m really relieved to get a good result here at Dee Why,” Manuel said. “I’m happy to move up the ratings. It’s a great confidence boost going into the next three events. I’m really stoked to make a final in my rookie year. I hope the battle for ASP Rookie Of The Year goes down to the last contest. It’s really close between me and Lakey (Peterson). I’m not going to count her out.”
