For O’Neill Marketing Traffic Manager, Kiersten Owen, what started one rainy day as a one-of-a-kind D.I.Y. quickly blew up on social media with an alarmingly positive reaction. And thus a jewelry line, and business was born. Owen later decided to name her newly created brand Rope the Moon after a country song of the same title because, well, it just clicked.
Rope the Moon is inspired by the idea of the free spirited girl, one who finds herself “a little bit country and a little bit rock n’ roll” as influenced by Owen’s own time spent between the music induced beaches of southern California and the inspiring plains of Oklahoma. And although to most the golden state and the flatlands of the great may seem no more similar than some silly oxymoron, to Owen it was the very root of her inspiration–the Wild West.
Each piece, delicately handcrafted with metalics and jewels dependent on the season and theme of the line (that range from Festival to Summer Lovin’) provide a unique and one of a kind topper to any of your summer looks. We like to think of it of course as the paint to any blank canvas–simply start with a fresh white tee or smock and layer up your Rope the Moon jewels on top! And just like that and you’ll be tackling your inner-cool girl in no time.
So where do you, a young shoe-jewel-tee-whatever designer, start? Well anywhere and anytime, really it’s up to you. A little bit of a tip from Owen however is to “start A.S.A.P.” don’t wait–seriously. Sure, give yourself some time to think out how things might turn out and where you really want to go with your brand but don’t spend half your life waiting for that “perfect moment”. Start when you’re young and full of creativity.
At O’Neill Women’s we are big fans of Owen’s one of a kind pieces–catch them on our models in lookbooks or on our riders in campaigns, you’re sure to find her gorgeous pieces sprinkled on top of many of our O’Neill looks.
