The US Open is in full effect right now and our O’Neill Girls are ripping it up! Kaua’i surfer and O’Neill Girls team rider Malia Manuel dominated in her opening Round 1 Heat and advanced directly into Round 3 where she placed 3rd. Malia surfed this morning in Round 4 and killed it scoring 1st in her heat and advancing on to the Quarter Finals tomorrow at 12:30pm PST. Malia is currently ranked No. 7 on the Women’s ASP WCT, and is hoping to carry the momentum from her strong start throughout the event to win the prestigious ASP Rookie of the Year Award!

“The U.S. Open is a unique event where we have to stick to more of a set schedule rather than a typical waiting period and we knew we’d be running this morning,” said Dave Shipley, ASP Women’s World Tour head judge. “There are clean conditions out there for the start of Round 1 and we expect some standout performances from the girls.”

Team rider Sage Erickson scored second in her opening Round 1 Heat, then scored big in her Round 2 heat getting first place against Sofia Mulanovich. In Round 3 it was a battle between the girls and Sage scored 3rd in her heat advancing on to Round 4 this morning where she battled it out with 5X World Champion Steph Gilmore. Sage had an incredible heat, with confident surfing on her backhand and and her highest wave score being an 8.07 where she had priority on the wave and got two epic turns on the outside. This was Sage’s best result thus far on the WCT! Tune in tomorrow around 12:30pm to cheer Sage on in Heat 2 of the Quarter Finals!
