Summer is in full bloom, which means extended weekends and carefree attitudes. You’re probably planning your next road trip and surprisingly you won’t need to look any further than our beloved California coastline. If you take PCH northbound from Los Angeles towards San Francisco you’ll be met with 90 miles of pure oceanic views in one of the most picturesque cities in America, Big Sur.
Big Sur has an abundance of outdoor state parks and beaches waiting to be explored. It’s the perfect trip if you wish to pull of the paved roads of the highway and get lost in the nature Big Sur has to offer. We’re all for a spontaneous weekend get away but if you do find yourself lost in the unique beauty the coastline has to offer here are a few recommendations we suggest to maximize your voyage.
8:00 AM start your day at Big Sur Bakery. Around 9:00 AM its time to hop in your car and start to drive up and down the coast.
Do not stop until you reach Pfeiffer Beach and drive across the Bixby Bridge. Once you need a break from the surf and sand take a drive through Pfeiffer State Park where you can experience the forests of 379 feet tall redwoods.
When the sun begins to set around 7 PM and the fog starts to creep in make your way to Nepenthe’s. This is where you’ll enjoy their famous Ambrosia Burger and three-berry pie for desert. Enjoy the sunset and last bits of light before heading to your camp ground for the evening.
Cell coverage is limited throughout the area so be sure to get the most out of your adventure by putting your phone away. Spend your day snapping shots with your Polaroid, which will last you a lifetime. We hope you take the time to get lost and experience Big Sur, which is now destination #2 on our Wanderlust Wish list!
