HYPERFREAK 4/3+MM CHEST ZIP FULL WETSUIT

I’ve been a lifetime O’Neill wetsuit wearer in Nor Cal for over 45 years. In the past, I’ve bought all my O’Neill wetsuits from Wise Surfboards. Over the years, O’Neill quality and fit has been impressive.

Up to now.

The Hyperfreak 4/3 wetsuit doesn’t last long! It fits and feels great for a while, but the new rubber and taped seams failed after 1 year of using it. I estimate about 60 hours using it. After the first three months, I had to send it for warranty repair since the Techno rubber compressed on the elbows.

A year later, it leaks from compressed and stretched areas and tears easily pulling the wetsuit on. All the inner tape is peeling off the wetsuit seams. The new rubber is definitely stretchy, but durability is compromised.

Medium fits me great. It's winter in San Diego and it keeps me plenty warm (which is great because I run a little cooler than most). Dries relatively quickly. Three months in and the tape covering the seams looks great, no peeling at all. Slightly hard to get on/off but this is literally the only incovenience (a small one at that) that I have experienced. Will not regret purchase!

Flexible, warm, and fits good. I initially ordered a small, but it’s was just a little small on me, so I sized up and the Medium is perfect. It looks like any standard wetsuit, performs well, and I’m really excited to keep using it this winter. Hopefully these first impressions last👍

This is my fourth Oneill suit. I get a new one maybe every 4 or 5 years.

Anyways, I want to comment for those who fall in the unknown zone of being tall, but skinny. I'm 5’11” and a half, but 152 pounds.

I've consistently been super happy with oneill’s medium sizing for 15 years. I needed a new suit, so I went to the Surf Staion here in St. Augustine to see what they had in stock. I wanted a 4/3, and this one was of the 2 options they had in medium so I bought it. Got home, tried it on, and was like, “damn, this thing feels tighter and shorter than my other oniell suits.” So I went back and swapped it for a medium tall. Now im like, “damn, this thing fits awesome.” it's not baggy at all and I’m under the suggested weight range too.

Overall, I love this suit.

Additional comment. This is my first chest zip. It's a little more cumbersome to get in and out of. I never had any complaints about my past suits with the classic back zip. I'm guessing i’ll get more used to it over time.

Thanks o’neill! I’m staying warm all day as I drop in on locals yelling, “my wave.”

Side note. Don't make any jokes with the staff at Surf Station. They take being serious real serious.
