A classic summer staple for anything from swimming to skating, boardshorts serve many purposes. While versatile, they may require some special care from the wear and tear of chlorine or salt water. In general, avoid washing boardshorts and bathing suits in hot water, and use cold water to hand wash if needed. If you find yourself thinking what are boardshorts, keep in mind that boardshorts differ from the average swim trunk and may require different care based on the fabric. While the difference of boardshorts vs swim trunks may be slim, there are important distinctions in both their care and components. For most boardshorts, washing instructions are as follows:

• Machine Wash Cold
• Tumble Dry Low
• Do Not Bleach
• Do Not Dry Clean

For non-performance boardshorts, you can dry them on a gentle cycle with low heat. Avoid excess treatments like chlorine bleach or fabric softener, which may affect delicate material, like swimwear fabric. 

SPECIAL CARE FOR PERFORMANCE BOARDSHORTS

Some of our performance boardshorts have welding and a laser cut hem like the Hyperfreak Hydro and Hyperfreak Tech styles. They are more heat-sensitive and will last longer if hang-dried. Be sure to check the settings on your washing machine, in addition to the care instructions on your boardshort before washing. If you're unsure about what your boardshorts or anything made with swimwear fabric may need, a gentle cycle and mild detergent are safe bets to ensure the longevity of your swimsuit.

After machine washing your performance board or swim shorts, wring excess water from them and leave them to hang dry.
