Cat Wright is a master stylist and dear friend that's been working with O'Neill for a while now. We wanted to learn a little more about her and some of her favorite things.
Cat has been working her magic with the O'Neill team for a while now and we thought it was about time we shared her story with all of you. Once you get to know Cat, you'll understand why we're so thrilled to have her on board.
We had the pleasure of sitting down with Cat and asking her some questions about her inspiration, her journey and what makes her the amazing stylist she is today. Being the cool and casual person that she is, Cat was more than happy to share her insights.
So, find a comfy spot and get ready to learn more about Cat Wright. We guarantee you'll leave feeling inspired, entertained and maybe even a little bit more stylish.
From favorite projects to forever style inspo and her love for Chili’s, let's dive into this fantastic conversation with our one and only master stylist, Cat Wright!
What’s your name, where are you from and what is your job title?
My name is Cat Wright from Paducah, Kentucky and I am a wardrobe stylist :)
How long have you been styling and working?
I started my career as an intern in the E! News wardrobe department in 2008 (omg) so 17 years! That's crazy. But I worked my way up to lead stylist at E! and worked there until 2017 when I went completely freelance.
Any memorable projects from over the years?
There are so many. Definitely with O'Neill our trip to Troncones to shoot Fall 2023. The trip was so fun, the images turned out amazing and getting to spend time with the team after shooting was such a cool bonding experience. Prior to that I did so many red carpets working at E! and the really big ones we had live shows and it was a massive production. There was one red carpet, I think it was the AMAs, and I was dressing both the host of E!'s Live from the Red Carpet as well as one of the bands performing on the show that night. I remember I was on the carpet all day with Terrence J (my client at E!) and my assistant was handling the band back in their trailer. At one point, the band went through to do red carpet press and Terrence was the one interviewing them, so I had all of my guys on the platform together which was pretty cool.
What is your forever style inspo?
Probably Kate Hudson. Obsessed with her 70's vibes.
What is your current style inspo?
Paige DeSorbo. She's more girly in her fashion choices than I am but that being said, she makes me want to wear more dresses and heels on a random Thursday night. You can tell she always makes an effort which I appreciate. I also love Hailey Beiber. She always looks so pulled together and chic even when she's wearing baggy sweatpants and no makeup.
Do you prefer to work in-studio or on location?
This is actually such a loaded question but the answer is location, location, location. Prepping for a location shoot is so much fun because it's a little more editorial in nature than in-studio and we get to have more fun with it. When I book a location job I definitely get excited. I will say though, the day of the shoot is super crazy and a little stressful from a wardrobe perspective because clothes and jewelry are flying everywhere and you're trying to keep every look crisp while traveling (at least until it's shot) and there is always a lot to get done before the sun goes down. Then, sun sets and the shoot is wrapped and you're excited again because there were so many cool shots to talk about. Location shoots really feel like everyone's hard work coming together for that moment and getting to see the final product is best feeling.
What is your favorite music to listen to in the studio?
Depends on the year :) I always love Dua Lipa though!
Do you have any favorite thrift stores or shops ?
Lately I've been obsessed with Landers Supply House.
Any fun hobbies or interests outside of work?
I am a Chilis and espresso martini connoisseur!! If that doesn't count as a hobby, probably live music and traveling (but I think everyone loves those things) and I am finally teaching myself to make my own jewelry.
What are your favorite O’Neill items for summer?
I have been gagging over the Sanders sets since we shot the first colorway!! And the Sevie shorts! I also just bought the Yara skirt, the Mirage Colorblock bikini and the Tropics Kimono for my summer vacays.
Can you piece together the perfect beach fit?
It definitely involves a bikini! For real life, I love a beach look that can go almost day-to-night; so either a lightweight pant with a matching button-down you can throw on open over your bikini top or a see-through knit set like the Ryan tank and skirt (I looooove sets) with a sleek sandal and an oversized sunnie...the one thing I just can't quit.
Cat was such a good sport she also wanted to add some additional info :)
Favorite Workout: I love Lagree and boxing.
Music: Right now I am obsessed with country music again. I think after almost 20 years of living in California I am finally starting to get homesick and it reminds me of home. Morgan Wallen, Sam Hunt and Kacey Musgraves are probably my favorites.
Favorite restaurants in OC and LA: Flyin' Fish, Nobu, Zinque, Chez Jay, Bluewater Grill and Ospi
Favorite restaurants anywhere: Not gonna lie, Chilis.
Also... I love pickles and my kitties!!
xoxo,
Cat Wright
