Johanne Defay

Johanne Defay, born on November 19, 1993, in Le Puy-en-Velay, France, is a distinguished professional surfer renowned for her resilience and achievements in women's surfing. At the age of two, she relocated with her family to Reunion Island, where she discovered her passion for the ocean and began surfing at eight.

Throughout her decade-long World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT) career, Defay has secured six CT victories, including the prestigious MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal in 2024. She also clinched the bronze medal at the 2024 Olympic Games held in Teahupo'o, Tahiti, further cementing her status as a leading figure in the sport.

In early 2025, Defay announced her temporary departure from the CT due to pregnancy, expressing her intention to return to competitive surfing in 2026. Her spot on the tour is expected to be filled by Spain's Nadia Erostarbe during her absence.

Despite her hiatus, Defay continues to inspire fans worldwide with her dedication to surfing and her ability to balance professional aspirations with personal milestones.
