Jordy Smith, born on February 11, 1988, in Durban, South Africa, is a distinguished professional surfer known for his powerful and fluid surfing style. Growing up as the son of a board shaper, he was immersed in surf culture from an early age.  

Career Highlights:

  • 2006 World Junior Champion: At 18, Smith clinched the World Junior Championship at North Narrabeen, Australia, marking a significant milestone in his early career.  
  • 2007 World Qualifying Series Champion: He topped the World Qualifying Series, securing his spot on the World Championship Tour (WCT).  
  • WSL Championship Tour Victories:Smith has achieved six CT event wins, including multiple victories at his home break:
    • 2010 & 2011 Billabong Pro J-Bay: Dominated at Jeffreys Bay, South Africa. 
    • 2013 Billabong Rio Pro: Claimed the title in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
    • 2014 & 2016 Hurley Pro at Trestles: Secured wins in California, USA.
    • 2017 Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach: Triumphed at Bells Beach, Australia.  
    • 2025 Surf City El Salvador Pro: Winner- An emotional win after 8 years, riding a board shaped by his dad.
  • 2010 World Title Runner-Up: Smith finished second in the World Title race, narrowly missing the championship.  
  • 2020 Tokyo Olympics: He represented South Africa in surfing's Olympic debut, marking a historic moment for his home country. 
  • 2024 Olympic Participation: Smith qualified to represent South Africa at the 2024 Olympic Games, continuing his legacy on the world stage.  
  • "Plus27" Surf Edit: In 2024, he released "Plus27," a surf edit showcasing his exceptional talent, particularly at Jeffreys Bay.  

Married to South African model Lyndall Jarvis since 2014, Smith divides his time between Cape Town, South Africa, Durban and Jeffreys Bay.
